The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is a time each year when Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their Medicare coverage. It runs from October 15th to December 7th. During AEP, you can:
- Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) or Part D prescription drug plan for the first time.
- Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan or Part D prescription drug plan.
- Disenroll from a Medicare Advantage Plan and return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).
- Change your Medigap plan.
Even if you’re happy with your current Medicare plan, it’s important to review it during AEP to make sure it’s still the best fit for your needs and budget
Even if you’re happy with your current Medicare plan, it’s important to review it during AEP to make sure it’s still the best fit for your needs and budget. Medicare plans can change their premiums, coverage, and networks each year, so it’s important to compare plans before making a decision.
Here are some reasons why Medicare AEP is important:
- To make sure you have the right coverage for your needs. Your healthcare needs may change from year to year, so it’s important to review your Medicare coverage during AEP to make sure it’s still the best fit for you. For example, if you’ve been diagnosed with a new medical condition, you may need to switch to a plan that offers better coverage for that condition.
- To save money. Medicare plans can vary widely in terms of their premiums and out-of-pocket costs. By comparing plans during AEP, you may be able to find a plan that will save you money.
- To get access to new benefits. Medicare plans are constantly adding new benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage. By reviewing plans during AEP, you can find a plan that offers the benefits that are important to you.
